And the rain came down....

....it is almost like we are not used to it. Here in the UK we should have developed a certain tolerance to the downpours, gale force winds and general rubbish summers. But as I sit here writing this, I can here the news, reporting the weather and my parents saying the mundane comments of , "look at that!", "It's raining....IN BLACKPOOL!!!" and "gosh, a months worth of rain"... but we know the UK well enough by now and to be quite honest I don't mind it!

Of course it is a pain when you have to be outside working in it, or as a news-worthy note, carrying an olympic torch in it but surely we should go out fully prepared and deal with it! Get a anorak, an umbrella and wellies in the worst case scenario!

I spent my day, after a healthy dose of shopping, curled up on my bed with the cat watching 'The Darjeeling Limited' (A film of high importance) I had a pot-noodle and some fizzy orange at hand and enjoyed the rain pitter-pattering on the window.

Some of the best 'alone days' I have had have involved rain! Simply because, when you awaken to an empty house and lie in bed, drifting in and out of sleep, you can listen to the rain. However heavy it makes you value your duvet world....the warmth....the solitude. You can then get up at whatever time you like, get some tea and toast and then retreat back to bedfordshire. No matter how heavily the rain falls, it doesn't matter, not when you are inside in the warmth with nothing to do and nowhere to go but please yourself. Spend your entire day in your pajamas if you like, big wooly socks and fun, animal shaped slippers. You can eat the best of comfort foods, mine is usually soup or on unhealthy days, a pot-noodle. Caffine is always essential, in the form of tea and coffee. Usually I take the opportunity to blog and surf the net, I would say at my own speed however our bad internet connection prevents me from even doing that.

All in all, I like to embrace the rain, it waters the flowers, washes away the streets grime and dust and makes lovely weather for the ducks.

Manga Art

I have become hooked on this developed, Japanese art style. It came about in the late 19th century and is a comic medium read by all ages. Since the 1950's Manga has spanned all genres and is an important part of the Japanese publishing industry. These whimsical drawings not only tell stories but they are works of art and even without a storyline or animation or text they are a collection of precise beauty. I love the clean lines, colour and hihlighting and when I go about creating a new manga piece (image above) I love to gather the ideas from existing art and chop and change til I produce something totally unique. I love how Manga art can go anywhere from girls with feline body parts to rainbow hair- the ideas know no bounds.

Not only is the artwork of importance to me, I also find watching my rather small collection of Anime films a joy. I started by just looking out for The Studio Ghibli collections which have been beautifully created by Hayao Miyazaki. I find that they set the benchmark for all Japanese animation. To watch they are a magical experience as the artwork continues to astound me but the stories are something of an enchanting thrill. My favourites including "Spirited Away", "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Howl's Moving Castle". The scenes are lifelike and remarkable as is the animation and the mystery they envelop you in.

I recently purchased two more DVDs which I discovered back at the college library when I should have been studying. Produced by "Manga", "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and "Origin- Spirits of the Past" are equally as enthralling and after recently watching them, they rekindled my love for Japanese art and the Manga genre. Described as 'dreamily beautiful' and 'breath-taking', the anime genre of films is not one to be missed on the assumption that they are, I quote, "cartoons for children". They can be enjoyed by any age and I proudly stand for such stunning visuals.

But my review cannot just be read. In order to understand and fully appreciate, you must either buy or borrow an Anime film or book, especially the ones I have recommended in this post!

Tattoo Thoughts....

"You will not get one while you are living in this house!" Strong words from my mum, and they are final...there would be no way of getting around it unless I had one in a place she never saw! This is neither here nor there considering I would like one on either my wrist or my under forearm. As we have just been discussing in our General Studies class (to the amazement of our tutor) a meaningful tattoo that means the world to you and is special and well-thought out is an adult choice! It is adding colour to the body which the class thought as a blank canvas. It is art. Here are some images of some beautiful ones that I like the look of...

The lyrics to my favourite Beatles song, Let It Be. I love the way this Tattoo has been done, it is very creative and beautiful

The colours in this feather are stunning and something like this would look equally as good on the under wrist, almost like it is curled around.

I love this! John Lennon's face on the under forearm! Very cool!

I like the anklet idea! Not sure about the pain...

I prefer the first "Let it Be" tattoo, and to have that lyric would mean alot to me!

I do, fortunately have about 3 year until I move out, so these 3 years will be spent making this decision, till then, there are always piercings!
