Admittedly I stopped watching DW as soon as David Tennant (the 10th doctor) regenerated into Matt Smith (the 11th doctor) My reasoning was one of mourning. I couldn't let go of everything the 10th doctor was. For me, he made DW come to life...David Tennant made it into something that got so many people all over the world (not familiar with the sci-fi genre) into DW. There was the mass merchandise and a soar in sales at Toys R Us and all the Who shops. I shall also admit that I didn't watch the previous doctors, as Christopher Eccleston was the doctor of my childhood and then David Tennant brought the whole thing SMACK up to date and he made me love DW all the more. So when I heard the tragic news that he was no longer going to be 'The Doctor" You can imagine my reaction...I was angst-ridden and swore to myself not to watch the following episodes with this new, Matt Smith! So I didn't! It was my way of bringing the fact that David Tennant was the all time best doctor to the BBCs attention (however I am sure that one less viewing figure would not have made an ounce of difference!) But to see Season 6 advertised and to see in the trailers (as you DW fans will know about) Professor River Song, well...I couldn't resist. I was finally going to find out who she was and what she meant to the doctor...that...and Steven Moffat was the head writer and he wrote all my favourite episodes (Blink being the best, with the Weeping Angels- left me petrified of statues) I sensed this was going to be good and so I put on hold my principles and gave it a go...and you know what? I was not disappointed in the slightest!
Boy did this first episode of Season 6 deliver...during which I found it incredibly hard to eat my lasagne. It has got to be the only DW episode that has left me with a pain deep down and completely speechless. I mean to create a monster that makes you forget about it as soon as you look away...well that deserves a round of applause to all of the DW team. What I also loved was that it started at the end! Brilliance..pure brilliance. For those of you who are reading this and have not the slightest clue as to what I am chunnering on about (congrats for persevering) Watch the latest DW episode on BBC i-player now and I promise you (fan of not of the sci-fi genre) you will not be disappointed!
